Whenever i turn on the tv when i come back from camp these few days, China has been appearing in that box for upteen times for the very wrong reason. Olympics is over and so it ain’t any gold. I see milk and more milk recalls. Across Taiwan, Japan and to my very Singapore.
Japenis consumers are very well aware of the fact that China products are not very confident products. And this issue of polluted milk products stirred up a pretty nasty sensation. Products were recalled back, causing suppliers to pull their hair and dairy farmers to discard all milk products.
I sympathize with the victims of the chain effect that China’s milk product has caused but this is to best prevent further health issues.
White Rabbit Candy aka bai tu tang
One point to note. My favorite WHITE RABBIT CANDY is sooooo out of consumtion range. It is found to be tainted with melamie. Anyway its just tainted so the public do not have to panic in anyway as i am a living example of a perfectly survivor of this melamine shit. I’m a survivor but i am still affected. Because of heavy consumption of this white rabbit candy during my childhood, my brain has been damaged though no test results have proven that it will cause brain damage, I have been getting more stupid as i grow. It has caused weight gain to such extend i have flappy tummies. But seriously i can’t blame it all on the candy for my belly. Beer has got to contribute quite a little. 
On a more serious note, Its what we eat that cause us to be what we are today. And if these unhealthy products can kill babies, its better we keep these products out of reach of the public. Though i can assure you that such candies won’t kill a full grown adult. Hence there should not be any panic.
Anyway, i have tried MS wave 3 products, esp messenger 9 Beta. It is a way better experience than 8.5. Hence you guys can try it out.

Her debut album was a few years ago when i first saw her in magazines but i never paid notice to her. Because i’m simply not a fan of bossa nova or rather i never got a chance to listen to her.
But recently I’ve got to admit i have a change of taste in women, arts, hobbies, books and music. i didn’t know what sparked these changes as they are pretty dramatic.
In detail, from pop, i shifted to RnB and now to jazz. Its so pleasing and smooth and on hearing what Olivia has got for me, i never wanted to turn back.
From a frequent clubber who loves meeting new people, new girls to be exact, I’ve learned to appreciate women. Feminism, talents, intelligence and good looks are what attracts me. Apprently i’ve found the one who came close, Olivia

And if changes in preference in girls are not a big issue, i guess career path changes might just make me another sicko.
Used to all the technology changes and well versed in server technologies and networking, I had managed to steered away from the IT world and into biz. Weird as it may sound but when Joe ( a very competent IT friend of mine) asked what will i be majoring when i am getting my degree, i told him management. It shocked him quite a bit. Because all my life.. I’ve been studying IT, networking and to even dump my Olevel books aside to study binary numbers and other related books. Thats my interest and passion for IT. But it died somehow, along my NS life. Maybe i couldn’t keep up and i needed practise which I couldn’t afford the time to.
i was somehow more interested in business, money, cash, stocks, financial news and even rag to rich stories. It seems that going towards the real cash is somehow a sturdy reality. But, I’m no better in finance. I’ll sleep trying to calculate. I’m afraid my interest would falter and i give myself till my O.R.D to decide my career path.
Having read Trump’s How to think like a billionair, i conceived much more indept insights into money matters and its the attitude and the way you look at things that make you a different person and gives you an edge over others. But if you want to save money and know how to use those money you had saved, read The Richest Man in Babylon. It helps.

I am not qualified to give any financial comments or give you a very objective report of the current Wall St fall out.
As headlines splashed on the Straits Times, the only two names that i recognised is Merrill Lynch and AIG. Merrill Lynch, one of the world’s leading financial management and advisory companies, has been brought to its knees and had been aquired by Boa ( Bank Of America ), while AIG faced a near bankrupt situation that the US Federal Reserves need to step in to prevent anymore further disrupt to the markets and threaten the already fragile economy.
How much is that bull in the window?
If these 2 names are not enough to scare you, the Lehman Brothers are in a even desperate situation when the Fed gave up and helped AIG instead. Lehman Brothers had filed for bankurptcy.
You may not think this will affect you but what happens when big, i mean BIG investment companies fall to this low and even declared bankrupt?
Remember a saying.. “A tornado is created when a butterfly flap its wings.”
Financial advisers had warned that more banks will go down following the big players’ failure.

Lets talk about the more apparent company that will affect us more, AIG. One of Singapore’s top insurer AIA is a subsidary of AIG and having its mother company aquired by Boa, we certainly do not have much impact in the short term as the problem is with AIG holding company, not the individual insurance company subsidiaries such as AIA.

There is a long que outside AIA’s Singapore office as the policy holders are having their insecurities. But policy holders should not panic and surrender their policy at this moment as Policyholder’s Guarantee Fund is managed by MAS that can take care of most of the liability (maybe 90% or more). So People.. Relax la!
And for the “other” public who does not have any stake or any thing to do with the above names.. you may think the economy is not going to get affected as it’s just the US but many a times, we are quite affected but it may take a few more weeks to see the situation. But the good news is the Fed has agreed to inject funds and merril lynch is still somehow saved by Bank of America.
Lets be positive about the economy and not be gloomy. May it be good or bad.. We still have our lives to run and so far.. life has been usual. In any case, hold on to your job as the future is still unknown.

As i just came back from camp, the first thing that popped into my inbox was Peta. Its not your usual SPCA newsletter. Its something that comes out of investigations and to think such things were happening. Animal cruelty happens at all degree in almost all countries and if PETA was too controvesial, at least this organisation is doing something for the animals.
The following video will bring some sickness to you. I, myself after watching it feels “sour” and heartache for the pigs.. Viewer discretion is advised but yet i would still encourage everyone to have a look at this.
I hope you have second thoughts about eating pork. I love bacon. But this certainly made me change my mind. Not all pig farms does this but this kind of treatment to animals is definitely not accepted. And hence i guess educating the young is a better option in the long run. Porking You Up
It’s a fact—ham, sausage, and bacon strips will go right to your hips. Eating pork products, which are loaded with artery-clogging cholesterol and saturated fat, is a good way to increase your waistline and increase your chances of developing deadly diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, osteoporosis, Alzheimer’s, asthma, and impotence. Research has shown that vegetarians are 50 percent less likely to develop heart disease, and they have 40 percent of the cancer rate of meat-eaters. Plus, meat-eaters are nine times more likely to be obese than pure vegetarians are. Every time you eat animal products, you’re also ingesting bacteria, antibiotics, dioxins, hormones, and a host of other toxins that can accumulate in your body and remain there for years.
Pigs Have Feelings Too
Ninety-seven percent of pigs in the United States today are raised in factory farms, where they will never run across sprawling pastures, bask in the sun, breathe fresh air, or do anything else that comes naturally to them. Crowded into warehouses with nothing to do and nowhere to go, they are kept on a steady diet of drugs to keep them alive and make them grow faster, but the drugs cause many of the animals to become crippled under their own bulk.

Think that you can outplay a pig on your Playstation? You may be surprised. According to research, pigs are much smarter than dogs, and they even do better at video games than some primates. In fact, pigs are extremely clever animals who form complex social networks and have excellent memories. Eating a pig is like eating your dog! As actor Cameron Diaz put it after hearing that pigs have the mental capacities of a 3-year-old human: “[Eating bacon is] like eating my niece!”
Pigs Prefer Mud, Not Crud
Pigs are actually very clean animals. If they are given sufficient space, pigs are careful not to soil the areas where they sleep or eat. And forget the silly saying “sweating like a pig”—pigs can’t even sweat! That’s why they bathe in water or mud to cool off. But in factory farms, they’re forced to live in their own feces and vomit and even amid the corpses of other pigs. Conditions are so filthy that at any given time, more than one-quarter of pigs suffer from mange—think of your worst case of poison ivy, and imagine having to suffer from it for the rest of your life.
Farming Family Values
Factory farms are pure hell for pigs and their babies. Mother pigs spend most of their lives in tiny “gestation” crates, which are so small that the animals are unable to turn around or even lie down comfortably. They are repeatedly impregnated until they are slaughtered. Piglets, who are taken away from their distraught mothers after just a few weeks, have their tails chopped off, their teeth are clipped off with pliers, and the males are castrated—all without painkillers.
The Manure Is Blowing in the Wind …
A pig farm with 5,000 animals produces as much fecal waste as a city of 50,000 people. In 1995, 25 million gallons of putrid hog urine and feces spilled into a North Carolina river, immediately killing between 10 and 14 million fish. To get around water pollution limits, factory farms will frequently take the tons of urine and feces that are stored in cesspools and turn them into liquid waste that they spray into the air. This manure-filled mist is carried away by the wind and inhaled by the people who live nearby.
Bacteria-Laden Bacon and Harmful Ham
Extremely crowded conditions, poor ventilation, and filth in factory farms cause such rampant disease in pigs that 70 percent of them have pneumonia by the time they’re sent to the slaughterhouse. In order to keep pigs alive in conditions that would otherwise kill them and to promote unnaturally fast growth, the industry keeps pigs on a steady diet of the antibiotics that we depend on to treat human illnesses. This overuse of antibiotics has led to the development of “superbacteria,” or antibiotic-resistant bacterial strains. The ham, bacon, and sausage that you’re eating may make the drugs that your doctor prescribes the next time you get sick completely ineffective.
Hell on Wheels
More than 170,000 pigs die in transport each year, and more than 420,000 are crippled by the time they arrive at the slaughterhouse. Transport trucks, which carry pigs hundreds of miles through all weather extremes with no food or water, regularly flip over, throwing injured and dying animals onto the road. These terrified and injured animals are rarely offered veterinary care, and most languish in pain for hours; some even bleed to death on the side of the road. After an accident in April 2005, Smithfield spokesperson Jerry Hostetter told one reporter, “I hate to admit it, but it happens all the time.”
Killing Them Without Kindness
A typical slaughterhouse kills up to 1,100 pigs every hour, which makes it impossible for them to be given humane, painless deaths. The U.S. Department of Agriculture documented 14 humane slaughter violations at one processing plant, where inspectors found hogs who “were walking and squealing after being stunned [with a stun gun] as many as four times.” Because of improper stunning methods and extremely fast line speeds, many pigs are still alive when they are dumped into scalding-hot hair-removal tanks—they literally drown in scalding-hot water.
Ditch the Bacon and Get Fakin’
Save pigs from hell and yourself from bad health by feasting on faux pork products instead. Stuff a sandwich full of Yves brand veggie ham slices, or throw some Lightlife Smart Bacon into a sizzling skillet—the freezer and “health food” sections of your local grocery or health food stores are packed full of these and other tasty substitutes.
Think before you eat another sausage.

Following strange weathers that sweep across asia, Ike has finally shown its existance to Texas.
Hurricane Ike has made landfall on the Gulf coast of Texas, where it is expected to cause “potentially catastrophic” flooding and damage.
It hit land at Galveston at 0710 GMT, with winds of up to 110 mph (175km/h). Evacuation has been carried out as President George Bush declares federal emergency in Texas. This is one of america’s worst hurricane storms which result the state to be underwater (3.7m).

Display of beauty
As we see the effects of this magnitude, people suffer. Families, especially children are not getting the adequate health care and sanitation. And to Cuban’s dismay.. political issues have been delaying US assistance to Cuba leaving their people homeless and in fear.
Staying away from the storm in makeshift shelters. Homes destroyed.
Is this all natural calamity? Or do we play a part in the massive storm?
Why do i post all this?
Singaporeans has no qualms about all these. We are not affected. but think again. We may just experience freaky weather changes but when storms of this large magnitude hits America, it cripples their ecomony. Maybe not now but very soon in the next few weeks.. we’ll see the effects when severe gas shortages comes in and power hubs in the eastern side goes down, with internet hubs connecting to asia gets hit. Fox news has reported that gas could double or triple in the next several weeks.
With oil prices still high, it is another gripping concern if there is an Iran strike. Asian countries of cause will get affected. Especially Singapore when our economy is somehow still dependent on the US.
Economy issues aside.. We’ll solve it as it comes anyway.

Floods in Texas
To answer that question, I’ll have to introduce you to the Gulf Stream.
The Gulf Stream, together with its northern extension towards Europe, the North Atlantic Drift, is a powerful, warm, and swift Atlantic ocean current that originates in the Gulf of Mexico, exits through the Strait of Florida, and follows the eastern coastlines of the United States and Newfoundland before crossing the Atlantic Ocean.
So how important is the Gulf Stream and what does it do?
The Gulf stream is one of the strongest ocean currents in the world. It is driven by surface wind patterns and differences in water density. Surface water in the north Atlantic is cooled by winds from the Arctic. It becomes more salty and more dense and sinks to the ocean floor. The cold water then moves towards the equator where it will warm slowly. To replace the cold equator-bound water, the gulf stream moves warm water from the Gulf of Mexico north into the Atlantic.
The Gulf Stream shows up as a winding rope of orange and yellow against the cooler green and blue waters.

The Gulf Stream is influential on the climate of the east coast of Florida, especially southeast Florida (where it is often just a mile or two off the coast), helping to keep temperatures warmer than in the rest of the southeastern United States during the winter. During the summer, the effect is opposite but smaller. The Gulf Stream makes the climate of offshore islands of Massachusetts, Martha’s Vineyard, and Nantucket milder than that of Massachusetts Bay, which is isolated from Gulf Stream effects by Cape Cod.
All these may sound greek to you but to explain in laymans term, it simply means that this gulf stream is one of the most important current system in the world that is keeping the climates in the US and Europe as it is. Any changes to the gulf stream will mean alot more harm than your typical macdonald’s BIGmac does.
The warm water of the Gulf Stream oftentimes increases the intensity of tropical cyclones. This usually occurs when water temperatures exceed 26.5 °C (79.7 °F). Especially in the month of July, tropical cyclone formation is common over the Gulf Stream. Storms travel westward through the Caribbean and then either move towards the north and curve near the eastern coast of the United States or stay on a north-westward track and enter the Gulf of Mexico. Such carry the potential for creating extensive damage and heavy winds to the United States’ Southeast Coastal Areas.
Hence as the temperature of the Gulf Stream increases, the larger the storm will be. Studies have shown that global warming has not been any better. In fact it has worsen. And to link everything up.. As global warming worsen, the temperature of the gulf stream will increase hence giving US southeastern coastal areas and Europe countries more storms, cyclones and a dreaded Storm Surge.
Storm Surge has not been mentioned in the news yet but I fear for the worst. People misunderstand that tsunami can only be created by earthquakes or volcanic eruptions but in some cases it can be created by meteorological storms conditions.
Deep depressions causing cyclones, hurricanes—can generate a storm surge which can be several meters above normal tide levels. This is due to the low atmospheric pressure within the center of the depression. As these storm surges come ashore the surge can resemble a tsunami, inundating vast areas of land. These are not tsunami.
As the storm surge collects its momentum and energy, it sweeps outwards from the origins of the Deep Depressions causing large damage to the countries in its way. If Hurricane Ike generates any (i hope not!) storm surge, the possible targets will be US southeastern coastal areas (Florida, being the predicted worst hit) and coastal areas of eastern London.
My condolences to the victims of Hurricane Ike and i hope help will reach you asap.
Now it may be storms and hurricanes. But people, please do not take Mother Natural for granted. We have what we have owning to what we took from Mother Nature. Its unfair to treat Earth this way.
Planet Earth
Last but not least, on a personal note, i’m surprised that i have public readers and your comments are useful materials for me and for other readers. This entry which i had put up, i hope to show everyone that everything we do, it comes back to us eventually. Everything is linked together like a zig-zaw puzzle. If we make effort to piece everything together, we’ll be better humans and of cause better people who appreciate what is given to us.

Yesterday, the LHC was switched on while physicist and the rest of the science world celebrates. But could this mark the end of the world for us?
First of all, It looks like this.

Look at the big circular thing running across the city. Its the LHC. Large hadron Collider.
The LHC was built by the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), and lies underneath the Franco-Swiss border between the Jura Mountains and the Alps near Geneva, Switzerland. It is funded by and built in collaboration with over eight thousand physicists from over eighty-five countries as well as hundreds of universities and laboratories. The LHC is operational and is presently in the process of being prepared for collisions. The first beams were circulated through the collider on 10 September 2008, and the first high-energy collisions are expected to take place after 6-8 weeks.
As big as this project seem to be, it too has its safety concerns. It would be safe to say that this is the one of the world’s biggest science experiment involving 85 countries and over eight thousand physicists. As much as the anticipation of this project, there are people who are against it. For the good or bad, only God knows.
Of such people, Walter L. Wagner lead the group who opposed to the idea and even wanted to halt the beginning of the LHC.
They assert that the LHC experiments have the potential to create low velocity micro black holes that could grow in mass or release dangerous radiation leading to doomsday scenarios, such as the destruction of the Earth. Other claimed potential risks include the creation of theoretical particles called strangelets, magnetic monopoles and vacuum bubbles. The claims made about the safety of the LHC have attracted widespread media attention. This has raised fears among the public that the Earth will be destroyed by the experiments at the LHC, and scientists associated with the project have received many protests. The Large Hadron Collider team revealed they had received death threats and threatening emails and phone calls demanding the experiment be halted.
Sounds like there are more that meets the eye.
A more specific concern will be of micro blackholes. So what are black holes? These dark creatures exist in space and out of our naked eyes. They are created mostly by dead stars and due to some space adventures consisting of cosmic rays, radiations and chemical x, they suck everything including light,
What Black Hole looks like.
A major concern amongst CERN opponents is that any micro black holes produced by the LHC particle collisions may have a very low velocity and so, unlike any created by natural cosmic ray collisions, they will not escape the Earth’s gravitational pull. If the black holes do not immediately decay, they may remain within the Earth and begin accreting (collecting) matter in the planet. Walter L. Wagner has argued that if micro black holes are produced at the LHC, they might not decay as predicted by CERN, since Hawking radiation is not an experimentally-tested or naturally observed phenomenon and might not exist.
For your info, Hawking radiation is simply a therory of black holes decaying and to lose mass, black holes that lose more matter than they gain through other means are expected to dissipate, shrink, and ultimately vanish.
But its just a theory which has not been experimented with. But soon, we’ll know.
